My poem: Marbles

By Ashley Lopez

Your green-hazel marbles suck me in
Like a magnet, I’m on the opposite end
Right in front of you I’ve been
I know you never fail to defend,
And your organic security is built-in
But today, there is one rule I want to bend:
I want to feel the warmth of your skin
Against my arm, it’s okay to break a trend
Can I please sit next to you?

Hold my hand while we wait
I know we have to turn our head to speak
But I’m glad you had a great day
This is only our 198th date
Yet I’m still in a frenzy to take a peek
And I’m impatient for our bodies to sway
Those marbles lead me down to my favorite trait
The one that makes me all around—freak
When we are done here, show me the way
To our ecstasy
