Story Time: My Dream Proposal

Hi again, I missed ya. As promised, I want to tell you about he proposal. Since I have so much tea to share, let’s start with this to get the melodramatic story time out of the way before I start crying. Literally.

Our love story, mine and Luis’, is filled with unforgettable moments, and one of the most cherished milestones will always be this proposal. Picture this: a nice hotel in Downtown San Diego, a heartwarming proposal, and a photographer capturing every moment, plus a planned photoshoot.

Let’s dive into it. *Puts on swimsuit*

The date was Saturday, February 18th, 2023. It was a typical Saturday for us—breakfast, errands, TV and movies, a quick workout, and a promised dinner of ramen (my favorite). Around 4 pm Luis’ best friend called him to say he was in town. It was a “surprise visit,” which was believable since he had done it twice before.

His friend told us that he was in town with his girlfriend and that they had gone on a last-minute trip. They had dinner reservations at 8:30 pm at a fancy Italian restaurant and asked if we wanted to join them. Of course, we said yes. He told us to meet them at his hotel around 6 pm to “pre-game” and start our night of festivities. (Well just them because I was/am knocked up, lol.) I asked about the dress code, and he told me to text his girlfriend. I did, and she said she would be wearing a dress and heels. My first thought was, “Well, I should probably start my makeup now.” I was excited to dress up and go out, even though I was still craving ramen (it’s not me, it’s the baby I swear [jk it’s me]).

It took me a little while to get ready. I got so into doing my makeup that I started straightening my hair, which took longer. Luis kept telling me to hurry up, and I was getting annoyed. In my head, we didn’t have to be there right at 6 pm. Finally, I was ready, and we called an Uber to take us to the hotel. I asked Luis for the name of the hotel and the room number. He then showed me the texts with his friend to show me the location. I also read some of their other messages, like “Bring some insert inappropriate item here” and “We’re in room **** at the Pendry Hotel.”

The Proposal

Finally, we arrived at the hotel in the Uber. We made our way up to his friend’s room and knocked on a door, but a random man opened it. Oops, wrong room. We then knocked on the correct room. The door opened to a softly lit room with a rose petal walkway that led to illuminated letters that spelled out “MARRY ME,” balloons, and candles.

Even though I knew a proposal was about to happen to me, I found myself frozen like a deer in headlights, and I asked, “What are you doing? Where’s Javier?” Apparently, I didn’t move forward, so he tugged my arm to walk with him toward the letters, where there were even more rose petals on the ground. As we were walking toward the letters, a photographer came out and started snapping pictures of us (hence, why he was rushing me).

Honestly, the whole proposal was a blur. I was in shock, even though a part of me knew it was coming eventually. I wish I remembered every word he said to me before he got down on one knee. Of course, I said YES, and that’s when my mom, sister, best friend, and good friend came out to congratulate us. It was a moment I will never forget, and I am forever grateful for the perfect night.

How the night ended

We then proceeded to take pictures and have a photoshoot in the shower with champagne bottles. I had previously shown Luis a cute engagement photoshoot of a couple taking a champagne shower, and he made it happen for us. The pictures came out great, and the whole night felt like a dream. I couldn’t sleep at all because Hellloooooo–I was ENGAGED! After a while, my family and friends left, so Luis and I went to grab a bite to eat. (Getting engaged is tiring work people.) We then called our loved ones to share the news with them while spending the night in at the beautiful room he got us.

To wrap things up, his best friend did a phenomenal job of acting, and their text message exchanges were on point, hahahaha. Lastly, Luis couldn’t have planned this night without the help of my best friend, who happens to be the owner of Idyllic Events. If you’re in the San Diego area and looking to propose or have a romantic evening, I highly recommend checking out their page. Her planning skills are very versatile 😉
