monthly reflection

Hi everyone, welcome back to Ashley Spills. Ashley, here. You can check out my other posts here.

I can’t believe it’s already October. 2021 is almost gone. Are you excited for 2022? I’m not too sure how I feel about it yet.

So, September was a productive month for me. I bought a web hosting plan to self-host Ashley Spills and started designing my new site (still not launched). I wrote a lot, well enough to feel satisfied. As usual, my planner asked me what the most memorable part of my month was. After reflecting, I quickly realized that memorable things aren’t always good. Bad things can leave a stain on our brain, too.

Testing positive for COVID and my monthly reflection

I tested positive for COVID-19 in September (as did my boyfriend). I am vaccinated and I only felt two symptoms, congestion for about four days and loss of taste and smell for about 1.5 days. My boyfriend is not vaccinated. He felt more symptoms and some symptoms are still lingering; for example, he had fever, chills, headache, cough, sweats, loss of taste and smell, and fatigue. He still doesn’t have his smell back. He experienced at least some symptoms for 14+ days.

I’m not here to tell you to go get vaccinated. Everyone has the right to their own decision. I respect all viewpoints. I hope that’s clear as the man I am dating was not vaccinated for a long time (he is now). I’m sharing this because the variance between our symptoms was so radical, it absolutely amazed me and maybe you might find it interesting, too. I wish I could’ve vlogged it just to share how crazy our differences were. Guys—it was insane.

While I was cleaning and doing things around the house, he struggled to do one dish without sweating up a pool. I was sleeping comfortably, he was fighting fever on and off. While I was enjoying my food, he couldn’t taste it. I kept saying things like ‘mmmm isn’t it good?’ ‘mmm it smells so good’ all the while he couldn’t taste or smell anything. And we were both positive!

Monthly reflection: I had so much time in September

Although September brought me a virus, it also brought me time. I had a lot of time to do what I wanted to do: to be lazy, to write, to practice yoga, to sleep… I had so much time. Now I feel like I don’t have enough of it. It’s crazy to see how much time our jobs and work takes up. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, when I grow up, I want to be a kid.

This week I challenge you to schedule a day (or half a day), doesn’t matter when, dedicated to doing whatever the hell you want. That’s right, from the moment you wake up to the minute your eyes snap shut, live a day how you want to.

Here’s a secret, I often imagine myself in a dark hotel room on a king-sized bed with a fluffy white comforter watching TV, eating, and sleeping.

Thanks for reading, xo.

Friendly reminder that will probably be at the end of each post until it happens. I am shifting over to a self-hosted website in the coming month (or months depending on my progress) so if you’re following through WordPress reader, please subscribe by email so you can get my post notifications when I migrate over. According to WordPress support, I can move my followers over, but the WordPress followers won’t be emailed, rather my posts will just appear on the reader page without any notice. Yes, I’ll still be Ashley-spills.com.

If you like what you read and would like to support me, please feel free to buy me a coffee – thank you for the support!
