It’s February 1st Aka A New Beginning

Happy February 1st! I was watching a Youtube video a few days ago from the lovely Carli Bybel (will link below) and I just had to share some of her insight.

february 1st

Guys, January 1st is long gone, we can’t go back and we can only look forward now. So, Carli said something along the lines of: If you didn’t set New Year’s Resolutions (or if you’re already breaking them), CHILLLLL.

It got me thinking: Why is there so much pressure on January 1st? Okay, I obviously know why. It’s the beginning of the year and for a lot of people, including myself, it feels like a fresh start. However, some of us (also including myself) fall into a bad habit of not following through on new year goals and then thinking: “ok this is it—I’m officially a failure…again.”

As beautiful Carli said: You can start over whenever you want! In fact, she compared the feeling of a new year to the spring season. A lot of animals come out of hibernation. Many plants start blooming again, so why can’t we? Why is it such a norm to automatically be categorized as someone who failed when we aren’t meeting goals right away?

Let’s make February 1st our new beginning

Let’s make March 1st another new beginning. Then, let’s make all consecutive months a new beginning because you deserve it. You deserve that second chance (or 100th chance) to be your best self because let’s face it: Sometimes our better self is in hibernation for wayyyy longer than we’d like.

Grrr—When will I come out of hibernation?

Oh honey, I wish I had the answer to that. I wish I knew my own date. Lately, I’ve been so hot and cold with my motivation and goal tracking that I can’t even track a pattern. I’m so serious. I’ll have two productive days and five lazy as f*ck days. I absolutely hate it.

Though, I do know I’m not alone in this and there are little things you can do to make your day productive.

The little things that make a huge difference

  • Making your bed
  • Washing the dishes throughout the day
  • Cleaning your space before bed
  • Spending time outside
  • Less TV screen time (limit to two hours if you’re an addict like me)
  • Solid skincare routine (morning and night)
  • Brisk 15-minute walk
  • Cooking
  • Not binge eating unhealthy food

Pick your own battles. If you struggle to feel productive, think about little things that don’t take too much time that make you feel better, and productive, nonetheless.

Talk to you soon.
