Yes, you read that right—I’m pregnant. And yes, I have so much content to share and I have no idea where to begin so let’s start by going in the order of these big life events.
1. Finding out I was Pregnant
The day that I found out I was pregnant: December 30, 2022. I was in Mexico, specifically, El Cerrito Colorado, Michoacán, Mexico, partying my little booty off. I was feeling a bit off while there, and my period was late. But still, the pregnancy tests I took prior to my trip and during the first week I was there were negative. Finally, on my last day in Mexico (at this time I was in Guadalajara), after again, partying my a*s off (this time at a wedding), I decided to take another test.
*Cue the dramatic music* Dun. Dun. Dun. DUN.
A mix of anxiety and anticipation filled my mind as I waited for the results of the pregnancy test. For some reason, I already knew what it would read. When those two lines appeared on the test strip, my heart skipped a beat, and I yelled “Babe, I’m f*cking pregnant!” from the hotel bathroom.
I cried and he was in shock, and then laughed. Why? Because, again, we were partying our a*ses off for 14 freaking days.
The news was overwhelming, scary, and also incredibly exhilarating.
2. Getting Engaged While Pregnant
Okay, so the clock was ticking on this baby bump and yes, my little heart was wondering if an engagement would ever come (but this was a thought loooooong before). I knew he was planning it, even prior to the baby, so in my mind I was like “HELLLOOO THE TIME IS NOWWWW!” But of course, men just take their sweet time. I started to think: Okay, maybe next year.
However, on February 18th he surprised me with a beautiful proposal with the help of Idyllic Events, and it was a moment I will never forget. It was a whirlwind of emotions, and we are so grateful for the love and support we received from our loved ones. At this time, not many people knew I was pregnant yet. (I will dedicate a whole other blog post to this.)
3. Moving States While Pregnant
This one happened fast. Luis got an offer from his job to run a new department in their Nevada office in late February. We moved in the last week of March. With the excitement of me being pregnant, and now engagement, still fresh, we had to think about the logistics of our growing family. We were living in a one-bedroom apartment and we knew that we would need more space. After careful consideration of the offer, cost of living, and a bigger living space, we decided to make the move to California’s neighboring state: Nevada. We are now residing in Henderson, Nevada.
Moving states was a big decision for me. It meant leaving behind my familiar surroundings (again), my friends, and most importantly, my family. I thought to myself countless times, and even now, can I really be first time mom without my own mom nearby?
Not knowing what’s in store for me, I decided that yes I can. I can support my child—Luis and I both can. Though feeling lonely was/is my biggest fear. So, I guess we’ll see how it goes.
The process of moving was not without challenges. It was emotionally and physically exhausting for me (ahem I’m growing a baby). The day we moved into our new home was filled with a mix of emotions. I was excited to start fresh in a new place, but I also felt a tinge of sadness for leaving behind my mom (to be specific).
As we continue to settle into our new home, we have started to create new memories and build our life together even more, but this time as a family. We can’t wait for our baby girl.
The Present
Fast forward to now. I’m now in the second trimester of my pregnancy and we’ve settled into our new home. This transition has been easier than expected. It has been an incredible journey of growth, love, and new beginnings. I’ve learned that life can throw unexpected surprises at you. These curveballs are scary as hell, but with the right mindset shift, support system, and a little bit of courage, you can navigate through any challenges that come your way.
