take time for yourself

Hi everyone, welcome back to Ashley Spills. Ashley, here. You can check out my other posts here.

I’m writing from Castroville, CA. A little town in Monterey County. My boyfriend and I took a road trip here to visit his family. The weather is warm, but nice. During times of travel or a hectic schedule, I still practice my minimum of 15 minutes of daily yoga because it aids in my mental clarity and gives me a sense of accomplishment. No matter where I am or how I do it, I’m still sure to stretch my body and love myself.

When life feels busy, take time for yourself

Lately life has been feeling extremely busy and slightly overwhelming. Things like the commute to work, work itself, cooking, cleaning, exercising, driving in general—pretty much all the things we have to do that aren’t necessarily leisurely take up so much time. It’s hard to catch a break to take time for yourself. I’m here to remind you that it’s vital to take at least 15 minutes a day doing something you love or relaxing.

The reason I believe it’s important to take time for yourself every day is because it serves as a reminder of who you are and why you are here. We were not born to serve others and although it can feel that way, we have to serve ourselves too. If you haven’t had a chance to sit back and watch TV in a while, take some time to do so. If you set a goal for yourself to reach maximum productivity, to help with your mental health, or to do an activity you love every day, do it. Take the time to care for yourself.

Reward yourself

A proper way to thank your body and mind is to reward it as we see fit. If time doesn’t seem to be on your side, make the time yourself. Whether that means waking up 10 minutes earlier, going to sleep later, setting an alarm to remind yourself to take a short break, sitting in your car when you arrive home, etc. do it because you deserve to be rewarded for all your hard work.

This week I challenge you to pick any activity that makes you happy, even if it’s resting your eyes, and set an alarm as a reminder to do it. Take care of yourself because no one else will.

Thanks for reading, xo.
