learn more

If you practice yoga you’ve probably heard instructors say, “wobbling means you’re getting stronger.” In balance poses, the more you wobble, the more your body is trying to keep itself balanced and strong for you.

Hi everyone, welcome back to Ashley Spills. Ashley, here. You can check out my other posts here.

Recently, I heard an instructor say this and it became apparent that this is relatable in many other aspects of our lives too. The learning process will always involve mistakes, redos, and success. If you take into account all of the mistakes and things you learn along the way there is enough proof to show that mistakes (wobbling) indeed make us better (stronger).

Can you think of a time when you tried to get to point X, but made countless mistakes along the way? I sure can and I’ll use blogging as an example. When I started blogging, I didn’t have a care in the world for having a niche, SEO, or marketing.

I learn more about blogging and writing every day

I can’t imagine where my blog would be now if I did have a care for those things earlier. I’ve tried so many different tactics and tried to convince myself that I didn’t care how large my audience was or where the future of my blog was going.

Now, it’s something I think about often. Putting out better content. Making sure I’m not complaining or whining. Using social media. Implementing SEO best practices. Look at me now: trying to make a future for this blog and my writing. Not just for a larger audience, but to give people something they can enjoy.

I have many friends and family members who don’t enjoy reading, and that’s okay. But I want to make reading purposeful and fun again. Getting lost in words is something I often crave. I thoroughly enjoy seeing how other people convey their art (words) in books and blogs.

(BTW, currently reading The Wish by Nicholas Sparks and I’m hooked. I had a dream about reading his books [I never have], so I downloaded 17 of his books.)

The only way to go is up

My point is, while these past two years might have not been the best from a blogging standpoint, I’m only going to get better and hopefully reach more people. My blogging mistakes made me stronger and they still are because there is always room for more errors and new knowledge along the way.

You don’t know what you don’t know.

No matter what you try to accomplish in life, you’ll always have room for development and awareness of the motive behind your goals. (You can read about motive here.) The more passion you have, the more ambition you’ll have to discover more.

You’ll know when you find your passion because you won’t stop pursuing it. Wanting to know more about it. And you’ll want to fall just so you can stand back up again. The thing is, it’s hard to find what we love. I barely found it and I can imagine that it can take much longer than 27 years.

It’s okay if you haven’t found your passion yet—there is always time

My dad is 45-years-old (I’m totally kidding, but he’ll get mad if I expose his real age), and he’s learning so much about himself now at his age—add, give or take 15 years (sorry dad). I’ve never seen him happier and wanting to learn more. He’s thriving, reading, listening, investing, embracing, and being his true self.

My mom is about 45-years-old (I’m not kidding this time) and she’s making such beautiful art. She’s always been an artist, but it took her a long time to find exactly what art she likes and how she can express herself authentically. She’s always in her craft room designing and pushing herself to learn more.

This is your sign to find something you love to do—something you want to wobble for.

If you know your passion already, let me know in the comment section below.

Thanks for reading, xo.
