live in the present

Are you having a hard time to live in the present moment? It’s a common thing to do so, but with time you can change your mentality to do it.

Hi everyone, welcome back to Ashley Spills. Ashley, here. You can check out my other posts here.

I’ve always struggled with letting go of the past, whether it be good or bad. At times, I still find it difficult to not focus on things that once were. Things like past routines, broken friendships, shattered promises, mean conversations, memories of seeing someone consistently, and the list goes on. There are people I used to see all the time, and now I see them twice a year if I’m lucky. There were grudges I couldn’t let go of that were once toxic to my head.

Live in the present

But, now-a-days, as I strive to live in the now, I do find myself less worried and mentally pre-occupied. Instead of living in the past, present, and future, I am conquering the past and seizing the present. Though it’s always fun to take a trip down memory lane, it’s vital to remind ourselves those moments will never happen again, at least not exactly as they once did. The reason I find this important, for me at least, is because if we are too busy focusing on the past, we’ll never truly be happy where we are now. And let me tell you, now looks (or can look) pretty awesome.

If you’re stressed out about things that cannot and will not change, wouldn’t it be better to stress out about things that can change? The moment you are living right now is the only time to make a transformation in your life. Instead of beating yourself up about the chocolate cake you ate last night, take the time right now (better yet, after you’re done reading this) to replenish yourself with exercise and healthy food.

Take control of your life

It’s never too late to be the own pilot of your life. You are the writer of your story and you have the capacity and capability to alter any aspect of your life, even if it seems scary or out of reach. The only way you will ever live a blissful life is by taking the time to forgive and disregard the past. Taking charge of now will make a superior you and a fruitful future.

Once you have mastered letting go of the past, not worrying about the future will follow suit because you have dominated the present. Keeping this mentality will benefit you in the long-run. The question now is: how do I start letting go of the past?

Tune in on Wednesday for some tips.

Thanks for reading, xo.
